FARA’S
NEW SPECIALIST LEARNING CENTRE
FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES - a lifeline for families
At last, FARA’s dream has come true. After
many disappointments and
setbacks “The Samuel Centre” is soon
to be a reality and will open in
February 2007. It will be run in partnership with
the Child Protection
Department in Bucharest. Children from both natural
and foster families
starting from 4 years old, with both physical and
mental disabilities will attend
daily – and Sami will be one of the first
to attend. The main aims of FARA’s new project are:
• to support families to keep their children and prevent abandonment
• to provide a specialist education programme for each child
• to share expertise with other teachers and develop specialist education
for children with disabilities
• to change social attitudes towards children with complex needs and
encourage social integration in mainstream school
|
The
Centre will also provide children with medical expertise
and a range of
therapies. Parents will be encouraged to participate in the education of their
children and on going family support will be given.
In Romania, there are thousands of children with disabilities
who deserve a
chance of schooling. Only with your support will we be able to ensure that
many more of them get the opportunity of education. FARA’s new centre
will
be an oasis of love and hope – please continue to help children like
Sami to
receive the education they deserve. (FARA thanks the support of Woodfields School in
Norfolk for their
expertise in training special needs teachers for this project)
