Denis lay silent and still, unable to sit, crawl, or grasp with his hands.
When doctors diagnosed Denis with severe spina bifida during pregnancy, his mother’s life changed forever. His father left. She had to raise three children alone in northern Romania. She had to give up her job to care for Denis. They survived only on state benefits. The therapies Denis needed were too expensive or simply unavailable. Time and again, his mother was turned away.
